2. NEXT WEEK

First of all some good news. We have our first major talk, as follows:

Prof David MacKay, Department of Physics

will give a talk entitled:
"Sustainable Energy - Without the Bullshit"

Bateman Auditorium, Gonville and Caius College, CB2 1TA
8pm Thursday 26th October

Thanks Kate, Pablo and all those others who have looked for rooms. It
isn't easy at short notice!! Pablo, we'll probably cancel the
Churchill venue later this afternoon unless there are any other issues
that crop up during the morning. Sorry we're not using that room, it
was a relief at least to have something available, and thanls for
taking the time to book it.

The poster for this talk is here:
http://www.zerocarbonnow.org/cam/MacKay_26th.doc

I'm keen not to overburden people, spend too much money, or alienate
potential venue providers (colleges!)!! So I think we should simplify
our programme of events and not do too much in the next few weeks.

As far as this week is concerned, let's concentrate on the David
Mackay talk on Thursday. The economics energy/policy workshop can
fitted in later.

As far as later in the term is concernded I know that Anna is already
finding exciting speakers! If you have ideas for speakers, please let
Anna know; we should have some headed notepaper soon so people can
write to people: email or phone are other possiilities.

3. FUTURE PLANS

It's great that we are up and running and that we have future talks in
the popeline I'm keen that the IT side develops as rapidly as possible.
By the way, I've put my talk on the website
www.zerocarbonnow.org/cam/17th_Oct.ppt

I'm personally very keen to get started doign some work on some more
technical topics in the working groups. We're looking to get some
wikis set up.

I wanted to check that the new committee email address works. We can
also use the google forum (see below). If you get a google email
address and want me to foward mailing list emails to that address,
please let me know. There are also some mailing list options you can
choose (see link on welcome message), such as digest.

As well as this email address, there is an open discussion forum at
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/CZCS-committee
This may prove to be the most efficient way to discuss things.

4. COMMITTEE MEETING

We planned to have a meeting at 6 or 6:30 tonight Cambridge.
Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to make it since I am at home
in Birmingham this weekend. Perhaps I can leave that to Nicky the rest
of the committee to decide. I can't see anything urgent to discuss,
although it would be great to have a progress report and to chat about
the development of our 'infrastructure'. If you have IT skills, or
potetial ideas and projects, please email Jiaven on
design at zerocarbonnow.org

I hope you are all having a good week. See you again soon.

Regards, Steve
