Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well. Just wanted to pass on a document that I
received a couple of days ago from David Chandler, CUSU Green Officer
regarding the Environmental forum, set up by Emilia Melville and
others. Hopefully this might be interesting to people! It sounds like
we have some support from CUSU green for a campaign for stronger cuts
in emissions.
Since this is a student steering group, I don't want to be too heavily
involved, but it looks pretty exciting.

Proposals:
"1-A student steering group made up of representatives from Green
societies in Cambridge (ARU, Zero Carbon, 3Cs, CUECS, CUSU Green/EEC,
P&P, Plane Stupid, Roots and Shoots, and any others people can think
of) to co-ordinate campaigns, events, communication/publicity, etc."

"In terms of climate change campaigning it was felt that a radical
campaign with a national focus, pushing for higher targets for
emissions reductions, is missing from the Cambridge scene – we were
very keen to set something like this up and thought such a project
should be co-ordinated by the steering group. (Research needed to find
out whether there is an existing national campaign we can join which
matches our aims, or whether we should start something entirely new)"

All the best,
Steve

P.S. Comments on the new website much appreciated -
http://new.zcarb.net - In general this is intended to be a positive
and friendly space for those interested in the practicalities -
policy/strategy and technological - of carbon reduction.

Dear all,

I hope everyone had a nice Easter break!

At the Environmental Forum at the end of last term we decided that by
the next meeting, it would be useful to have come up with some sort of
guiding document for the forum - outlining how it will function, and
what it will hope to achieve.

I have attached an outline document of what this will look like, but
it would be fantastic to have as much feedback as possible on whether
you think this is taking the Forum in the right direction. If you have
any suggestions as to how the Forum should work and what it should be
aiming to achieve, please email green at cusu.cam.ac.uk, and Christine
and I will try and incorporate your suggestions ahead of the next
meeting, where hopefully we can agree on something and then really get
going with campaigning.

We think a major focus of the Forum should be a climate change
campaign, coordinated by the forum between lots of student groups, and
possibly local/town/national figures as well. I am in the process of
drawing up a campaign document for this, and would greatly appreciate
any input. As with the Forum, if you have any contacts, information
about other campaigns, ideas and strategies for campaigning etc. let
us know. The campaign particularly needs to have concrete goals which
we hope to achieve in colleges and at the University - so suggestions
as to what these should be, would be great. Similarly, please send
your thoughts on the extent to which the campaign should broaden its
focus beyond Cambridge University to goals within Cambridge(shire) or
at a national level.

We understand everyone's busy at the moment, but even if you only have
a couple of minutes to jot down a few points, that would still be
useful. Look forward to hearing from you,

Dan
