Hello,
Here is an invitation to a Environmental and Ethical Committee meeting. They
are keen on starting some sort of climate change campaign, so a great
opportunity to get our message out more widely. Hope someone can make it.
Rgds.
Steve

Hi everyone,

This Wednesday will be the first EEC (Environment and Ethics
Committee) meeting of the term, as well as a meeting of the
Environmental Forum. It will be in the Nihon Room, Pembroke College,
from 7 until about 8.30 pm.

The meeting has two main aims:

1. To discuss aims and ideas for a major Climate Change campaign. We
want to come up with some sort of list of key goals for a climate
change campaign in Cambridge. It can be limited to the University, or
be widened out to town or national goals too. Here are a couple of
possibilities to give you an idea of the kind of thing we're thinking
of:

Commitment to sourcing 'green electricity', recognising that students
may have to pay more
Getting a carbon audit
Making specific energy-use reduction targets

It would be great to have as much input as possible to work out what
we want to achieve - in colleges, at the university, or more widely.
We want this to be a vocal and active campaign, something which we
feel is missing a bit in Cambridge, so it would be great to get
started with a good turnout, and with a wide range of ideas.

This term will probably be focused on preparation, discussing things
with Uni/College authorities etc., and next term we hope to launch the
campaign with a high-profile speaker event or such like.

2. To decide on the form which the Environmental Forum will take. For
those of you who haven't heard of this, the idea behind the
Environmental Forum is to bring together all the various green/ethical
campaigning and student groups once or twice a term. In particular, we
hope that the Forum will be a great way to coordinate a climate change
campaign, and if we want, to give it a focus outside the University.
(A document outlining what's come out of discussions on this so far is
attached.)

We understand that this term is busy for everyone, but please try and
make this meeting if you can. We really want to make this a success,
and the more people on board the more likely this is. If you can't
make it email myself or Christine at green at cusu.cam.ac.uk to make any
suggestions about a climate change campaign, or the Forum.

Thanks,

Dan and Christine
