I will send out a separate email on what was discussed on the climate change
campaign and the climate bill, and one for the rota for the fresher's fair
(and other things related to it).

Marc

Minutes 28th August 2007:

Present: Pablo Candela, Marc Kaufmann, Steve Stretton

Actions to be taken (details below):

* Gunnar to tell committee whether he wants to be transitional treasurer or
not.
* Treasurer to repay Pablo and Marc, £25 each, once for the extra
electricity (Pablo), once for the stall (Marc)
* Someone to get in touch with the other green groups and to publicise the
8th December climate march over the course of the term and organise a
speaker meeting.
* Organise a rota of people for the fresher's fair (I'll send one out later
and people can fill it in)
* We really need to have some meetings to organise fresher's fair and have
everything ready by then, another one (or the same, if time allows) to
discuss the climate campaign and the climate bill
* We need to book the rooms for our talks as soon as possible, can people in
cambridge try and get Law faculty rooms for the Colin Challen talk, 3pm-5pm,
Tuesday 23rd October? If you want to give a title for the talk, make it:
"Climate change: Beyond party politics?". Tina has not come back to me on
the title yet, so just go with it (we can always change it for the event).
Some info: Colin Challen is a labour MP, chair of the All party
parliamentary climate change grouop (APPCCG).

- Stephen Rowley wants to step down as treasurer. We thought of proposing
that Gunnar would take over until we got a new recruit if he is fine with
doing it. Otherwise Marc would take over until then (preferably not).
Action: Gunnar to tell committee whether he wants to be transitional
treasurer or not.

- We decided to apply for electricity at the fresher's fair after all, in
order to be able to use the laptops for films or pictures. Pablo agreed to
hand in the cheque of £25 to CUSU (done at the time of writing).
Action: Treasurer to repay Pablo and Marc, £25 each, once for the extra
electricity (Pablo), once for the stall (Marc)

- Tim Helweg-Larsen has been invited to speak, we generally thought that
envrionmental week would get too crammed and that we should have a talk
before that anyway. So we were going to propose the third or the second week
of term as possible times for the talk. Although there was a lot of
discussion as to what kind of talk it should be (especially as we don't want
to be confused with ZeroCarbonBritain), we decided in the end that standard
talk would be least hassle.

- Campaign against climate change (CaCC) have gotten in contact about the
planned demonstration on 8th December and are offering to give us flyers and
posters and to send a speaker down to cambridge. We are very keen in
supporting the event and have to liaise with other groups in cambridge that
have had the same offer, so that we don't double the workload.
Action: Someone to get in touch with the other green groups and to publicise
the event over the course of the term and organise a speaker meeting.

- Finances : We will continue to ask for £1 entry to our main speaker events
for non-members and we will offer one year membership (£5) and Life
membership (£8 after the fresher's fair, £5 on fresher's fair and first
squash). We will have to have receipts ready for when people pay and be able
to produce laminated cards if they are to last 3 years.

- Anna will be heading the educational project and get in touch with the
schools before the beginning of the term

- The calendar was one of the main contributions last year and we should
keep it going. We thought that it would be great to get a website up that
includes alongside a list of links to groups active on climate change in
cambridge, in the UK and finally worldwide, as there doesn't seem to exist
such a resource yet.
We will need an IT team for this

- Fresher's fair:
-We should make sure that we know who will be the main responsible for
the various projects, so that we can point the Fresher's towards them if
they have a particular interest.
   - We need a rota for the fresher's fair, at least 2 people at every given
time on 2nd and 3rd october, 3 people would be better as one of them could
have a stroll around and liaise with other groups.
   - We thought of having a questionnaire ready for fresher's to fill in, so
that they can let us know what parts of climate change they are interested
in, what they want to have help with, know more about etc...
   - We could organise a separate green squash in the 2nd week (with other
groups), some ideas where to link it up with a film screening and some
veggie nibbles

- The big hitter: we are all very keen on helping the new climate change
campaign in cambridge getting off the ground, but it has to have a
global&national framework. As zero carbon society we also want to make sure
that we lobby stronger on the climate bill, which will go through parliament
around the end of october.
