Hi everyone,
some of you might be interested in it, and I think it would be great to get
some more environmental stuff on their pages. Especially as they don't
mention environmental issues amongst the political ideas. And if you don't
have enough time to do it all yourself, maybe apply together with someone
else? You've got a week to apply, (you have to write a sample article, ~500
words).
Have a good time,
Marc
WANTED: COLUMNISTS FOR VARSITY
Varsity, Cambridge's independent student newspaper, is looking for new
writers, columnists and contributors for its Comment section. If you have a
particular political bent, thoughtful comments to make, and are able to
express your ideas to a Grade 8 audience, we want to hear from you.
Comment wants writers who can, on a semi-regular basis, produce 500 words
on political activities and ideas within Cambridge, as well as national and
international politics. We're looking for columnists who have original and
interesting ideas, and who are able not just preach to the converted, but
persuade the rest of us to get in line with them. Write about CUSU, Marx,
Thatcher, neo-cons, fair trade bananas, debt-aid, school fees, electoral
reform, NUS bus ticket discounts or whatever else floats your political
boat.
This is a great opportunity to learn the art of propaganda production, set
the political agenda in Cambridge, and have nasty letters written about
you. If you think Varsity is too left, too right, or just too wrong, now's
your chance to fix it. Write for Comment and make your case and cause the
focus of the debate. Varsity regularly grabs student media awards, and our
stories are frequently picked up by the national media as well. So join up
- we'll make you a star.
Interested writers should submit a 450 - 500 word sample column on a
political topic of their choice to the Comment Editor. Submissions should
be emailed to comment at varsity.co.uk, and must be received by 5 PM, December
17, 2008.
