Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, concentrations of
atmospheric CO2 have risen from about 280ppm to 380ppm. Rigorous scientific
analyses project that this man-made alteration of the earth’s atmosphere
will cause the global climate to warm, and the recent IPCC report [IPCC:
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Assessment Report 4 (AR4), 2007]
projects a warming of the climate within the interval of +1.1 and +6.4 °C
by 2100, a huge number to compare with a difference of about 3°C between
the last ice-age and today.
