[Committee] Energy use/supply working group possible project

Dear all,
I think this is an opportunity to act towards a tangible change. However I
think Steve's point should really be taken on board. Of course I don't know
how much work the green officer at Queen's has put into assessing the
efficiency of an installation of photovoltaics, but, among the available
renewable sources of energy, isn't solar precisely the least reliable in
this country? But if it is, I think one of our roles as the group we are is
to give the right advice so that erroneous measures are avoided. This is
not saying we should not discuss how good such a development in Queens'
would be, of course. In the mean time I wanted to ask, how advanced is the
construction of the building? Is there maybe still time to make other
demands such as that the latest insulation techniques be used to maximise
the energy efficiency of the building regarding heating? In that sense,
that building could thus also set an example for a much needed improvement
of heating/insulation energy efficiency standards in most university
accomodation buildings, and it is conceivable that the energy saved that
way could represent a considerable improvement. We can also demand that all
light appliances are as energy saving as possible. Other ideas?
