Dear All,
Here are the details for the Sustainable Building SPD:

http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/ccm/content/preview/policy-and-projects/sustaina
ble-design-and-construction-supplementary-planning-document.en

Having a look through the document, the provisions for energy conservation
look fairly weak.

It might be a good opportunity to use the Wiki. We would just need to set up
the consultation acocunt and then
For the submission, our login is committee at zerocarbonnow.org and our
password is elephant.

All the best,
Steve

1. Purpose
1.1 This Sustainable Design & Construction Supplementary Planning Document
is intended to provide guidance on the policies within the Cambridge Local
Plan 2006 that relate to sustainability. The aim is to clarify what the
requirements are and how compliance should be demonstrated.
1.2 These policies relate to what is referred to in the Local Plan as ‘major
development’. This is defined as being 10 dwellings or more, or 1,000 square
metres for non-residential developments. It refers to both new build and
refurbishment.
1.3 As a supplementary planning document, an SPD is a material consideration
in the determination of planning applications.

Dear Eithne,
I enjoyed speaking just now. Just to confirm that it would be fine to
receive the consultation documents and the link to the online submissions
electronically.

If an address is required for any reason at this stage (e.g. we'd be happy
to act as statutory consultee if this would be in any way more helpful at
this stage), our details would be as follows:

Cambridge Zero Carbon Society
c/o Stephen Rowley
Quantum Matter Group
Cavendish Laboratory
J.J. Thomson Ave
Cambridge
CB3 0HE

Our next meetings are on Thursday 25th January, at CB1 at 8pm (quite a
general meeting, but with a specific slot for discussion of the Cambridge
Plan), and Friday 2nd February at St Catherine's College (where we have a
keynote speaker about design ideas). I'm sure I speak for many people when I
say that we would be very interested to hear more about Sustainable Building
in the Cambridge Plan and this specific document. If you'd like to give a
short presentation at either of the existing meetings (or a longer one in a
new designated meeting) we’d like to hear more.

Best wishes,
Steve Stretton

I wonder if you could give me the full name of your organisation (as
registered) and your postal address as I am obliged to send you a version of
all the consultation documents if you are a named consultee? I was also send
you an electronic version so you can pass it on.

Thanks,Eithne

Dear All,
I am writing about the Sustainable Building SPD (Supplementary Planning
Document) to the Cambridge Plan.

This document spells out the application requirement for developers of 10
units or more including materials, renewable energy, renovations, insulation
and contribution to climate change.

We have an opportunity to contribute to this document. It will take place
from the 17th January to the 14th February. There will be an online system
available from Wednesday.

We would like to be a consultee to this document, making a single
submission.

It would be a perfect project for Camacag to lead, with the Zero Carbon
working groups and other societies being involved.

The first meeting will be tonight and hopefully things will progress from
there.

 Best wishes,

Steve Stretton

GLOBAL WARMING

LOCAL PROBLEM

GLOBAL SOLUTION

Can Cambridge's Clay Farm Development Plan be made genuinely 'Climate
Friendly' * or is it already too late?

An open meeting to consider better ways of meeting housing needs that are
less damaging to the atmosphere and employ a more modern approach to carbon
emission control. The issue of planning and building now for future energy
waste is one that can surely be solved with the help of a bit of pressure
from the electorate. If we can solve this problem in Cambridge we can then
seek to scale up the solution and improve energy waste prevention throughout
the UK - and then the rest of the planet.

ABOUT SPDs:

"Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD's) are used to provide further detail
to policies and proposals contained in a Development Plan Document. SPD's
may cover a range of issues and can be thematic or site specific.

SPD's may take the form of design guides, area development briefs, master
plans or issue based documents, which supplement policies in a development
plan document."
