Hi everyone,

I've checked with the police and they are fine with us doing a demonstration
- we have the go ahead! I'll send the form today by recorded delivery but
I've already spoken by telephone and all seems fine.

After speaking to the police I think it will be best to do it in Whitehall,
opposite Downing Street (this is called Richmond Terrace and it is near the
Red Lion Pub). I'm sure we won't have trouble thinking of things to keep us
occupied: inviting people to give rousing speeches or writing poems
ourselves, dressing up, music (un-amplified), street theatre etc! There is a
pro-life (abortion) march going on, but this will be mainly in Parliament
Square.

There's no official info about exactly when the Bill will go through
parliament, but I we may be talking about Nov (possibly-but hopefully
not-before then), see links below.

I've been in touch with People and Planet ansd we will be meeting at 11:30
at the Council offices on Monday 22nd to see David Howarth regarding the
climate bill. They have a 'ditch dirty development' campaign which is about
stopping fossil-based so-called-development aid, so highly consistent to our
aim of a world without pollution from fossil fuels.

The email is included below: once we have a time, we can also invite people
to the Sunday banner painting meeting (meet in King's Bar so new people
could meet us first and go over the Saturday event, before we go to paint
the banners; another group to discuss David Howarth meeting).

Since the protest is now definitely going ahead, there's nothing to stop us
sending out the information in the email below and the draft press release,
although this will of course be updated as the protest approaches!

Thanks for all your help and enthusiasm!

with regards,
Steve

Cambridge goes to London: CHANGE THE BILL NOT THE CLIMATE!

Saturday 27th October, London, Whitehall, opposite Downing Street, 1.30pmfor 2pm
Demonstration

Are you worried that the Government's targets of 60% reduction in CO2
emissions by 2050, as set out in the Climate Bill, are not enough? Do you
agree that we therefore need a stronger Climate Bill?

A group of students from Cambridge believe that if we want to make any
impact on climate change we need a 90% reduction by 2030 - including
emissions from aviation. So we're going to Parliament Square to show our
support for a stronger Climate Bill. In our college gowns!
The intention is to challenge media pre-conceptions and to provide a
visually
stunning and unusual photo opportunity.

This will be lots of fun and generate publicity for this
important Bill (and make it all the more worthwhile forking out forty
quid for that gown you had to buy!).

The 90% figure is based on a truly sustainable level of CO2 emissions
spread out equally amongst the world's population. The conclusion is
that 1 person can emit 1 tonne CO2 per year.

If you want to come along, please email info at zerocarbonnow.org ASAP, so
that we can organise a coach to London.

Do you feel you don't know enough about the Climate Bill and the sustainable
level of emissions? Then do come to
