CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE ARCTIC - LOOKING NORTH: ARCTIC SCIENCE IN
INTERNATIONAL POLAR YEAR, 2007-2008
Location: Pfizer Lecture Theatre, Department of Chemistry, Lensfield Road,
Cambridge, CB2 1EW
Date: Thursday 17 January 2008
Time: 19.00 to 20.00
Prof. Elizabeth Morris, Scott Polar Research Unit, Cambridge
The International Polar Year, which began in March 2007, will see a
concerted international scientific effort focussed on the polar regions.
This talk will explain the background to some of the projects planned for
the Arctic, where the dramatic effects of climate change and increasing
pollution have already become apparent. See www.ipy.org for more
information.
Professor Elizabeth Morris is a Senior Associate at the Scott Polar Research
Institute, Cambridge University, and is a Visiting Professor at the Earth
Systems
Science Centre, Reading University. Her research has included mathematical
modelling of physical processes in snow, extensive fieldwork in alpine and
polar regions, and experimental laboratory studies on ice and snow. She is
now part of a consortium working on calibration and validation for the
CryoSat satellite.
This event is free to all and is held at the Pfizer Lecture Theatre,
Department of Chemistry, Lensfield Road, Cambridge, CB2 1EW from 19.00 to

Hi,
the next meeting of the Student Climate Project approaches, it will take
place from Saturday 19 January to 20 January in Leeds!
All who have been at the gathering in Oxford came back strongly motivated
and were impressed by the nice constructive atmosphere! So join us! Were
are organising a private van to Leeds as train and coach fares are
excessive.
Costs are reasonable now: 10 Pound + fuel divided by seven people (ca3h
trip) Currently, there are three places left, so answer me soon if you want
to join us - they will go quickly!
Mechi
(mv302)
There are currently two places left in the car

About the Student Climate Project:
Hello All and Happy New Year!
2008 is the year of The Tour of Climate Action!
The Tour of Climate Action is being organised by The Student Climate
Project, set up in late 2007 and open to everyone to become involved with.
The Tour will see an exciting diversity of arts/education/action right
across the UK, in a series of events taking place at University Campuses
throughout 2008. The first event is to be held at Cambridge University, in
conjunction with Cambridge University climate groups, on the 16th of
February.
A crucial gathering, where the tour will be planned out, is taking place in
Leeds this month from 4pm on the 19th to 4pm on the 20th January. It is
being held at the Common Place in Leeds, and crash space and vegan food is
there for all!
The gathering will be a chance to brainstorm ideas of the different ways we
can get students engaged in radical climate change action, as well as
bringingtogether a concrete plan for action. It is also a good opportunity
to make your university a stop on the tour (email logistics at studentclimatepr
oject.org.uk if this interests you).
Just bring a warm sleeping bag and your ideas. The Student Climate Project
is non-hierarchical and works through open working groups and consensus
decision making, meaning everyone can be heard equally.
